People who play these platform games will be so frustrated that they will jump up and down.
Since the very beginning of video games, there have been platform games with tricky movement problems and tough gameplay. Jumps that need to be timed and done at just the right distance, dangerous objects to avoid, or even enemies that players must either avoid or kill as they move through the levels. Playing platform games, even when the sixth generation of devices started, was still very hard.
Some of these games are meant to test the player’s skills and patience by making them deal with anger. There are a lot of hard platform games out there, especially on the PlayStation 2. Which ones stand out as the hardest?
I-Ninja
Argonaut Games brought this long-forgotten platform game to life. It’s about a savage and rude Ninja who has to save his Sensei from the Ranx, who work for his enemy Emperor O-Dor. A quest is sent for him to finally beat his enemy.
Ninja has a few skills that can help the player get through the platforming levels. These include the ability to double jump and spin his sword, and players will also find things throughout the game that can help them get better at platforming. Of course, the game can still be hard sometimes, but not so hard that it’s unfair. Even so, teams will need to get better if they want to beat O-Dor and the Ranx.
Jak 2
Jak 2 is one of Naughty Dog’s older games. It’s a follow-up to the first Jak and continues the trend of being a very hard follow-up. Jak 2 takes place 500 years after the events of the first game. It mostly takes place in Haven City, which is mostly a dystopia despite its name and is controlled by Baron Praxis with an iron fist. Practitioner’s right-hand man Errol locks Jak up and subjects him to tests in an effort to make a new type of fighter.
Like most Naughty Dog games, Snake Game is pretty easy to get into, but that doesn’t mean Jak 2 is a walk in the park. Sometimes, the game’s levels get really hard out of the blue, and players have to mess with the controls to avoid the sudden, very real danger. To avoid falling for the random tasks that are spread out through the levels, players must be very careful and alert while playing.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Platform game Rayman is another classic, and it’s also known for being hard. In the second game, “The Great Escape,” a group of robo-pirates attack the next planet, “Glade of Dreams,” with the goal of killing everyone there and making them work for them. They are fought back by Rayman, Globox, and other friends, but the battle doesn’t go as planned, and Rayman is captured.
The game is mostly about 3D platforming, and you’ll also meet robo-pirates who are after Rayman because he bravely escaped from jail. Even though all of Rayman 2’s levels are well thought out and the tools are easy to use, the game is pretty hard to get good at. Platform games don’t get much harder than this one, and the first Rayman isn’t even close. But this one sticks out in the minds of those who played it.
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank are treated like celebrities after saving the galaxy the first time. After an interview, their boring lives become exciting again when they are given the job to find a mysterious thief and return a biological experiment that was stolen. Thief ends up taking Clank as well, though, which makes Ratchet’s task even more dangerous.
Ratchet and Clank games usually take place in 3D, and players control Ratchet in that world. They have a variety of tools to help them get through the tough parts and defeat monsters. And the player will have to be patient and keep going through a lot of problems if they want to see the end scenes. It is definitely a test of stamina, with some levels getting incredibly hard very quickly.
Pac-Man World 2
Most players think of the famous arcade game where the yellow circle, which was Pac-Man, ran through a maze while dodging ghosts that would kill him if he touched one. Since then, more Pac-Man games, including platform games, have come out to try to get some of the first game’s success and fame. It has a lot of story, with magical fruit that people say can heal them and the evil Spooky who wants to kill all the Pac-people. Pac-Man is named as the hero who will save them all.
In Pac-Man World 2, this is the main idea. Pac-Man will have to find his way around a 3D world and use a lot of different skills to help him. Even the strongest skills in history couldn’t make this game easy, though, because it was so damn hard. The challenges in each level were so hard that only the most dedicated players have been able to get through them.
Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex
Most people think of Crash Bandicoot when they hear the phrase “hard platforming games.” This is because Naughty Dog made this series of games with the goal of frustrating players. The main character, Crash Bandicoot, jumps and spins his way through levels that are meant to be hard. With the help of the elemental masks, several enemies of Crash work together in Wrath of Cortex to plan the final death of the main character.
Without a question, Crash Bandicoot games are the hardest platform games out there. It’s the kind of game where a kid gives the controller to an older brother or parent out of anger, only for that person to be confused by how hard the game really is.
