The District Development Council (DDC) is a new tier of local self-government that was introduced in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in 2020. It was created as part of the government’s efforts to decentralize power and promote grassroots democracy in the region.

The DDC (DDC full form) is a representative body that consists of elected members from each district. The members are elected through a direct election process that is held every five years. The DDC has the power to plan, approve, and implement development programs and schemes in the district.

The functions of the DDC include:

  1. Preparation of plans for economic development and social justice in the district
  2. Implementation of development programs and schemes
  3. Monitoring and evaluation of development activities in the district
  4. Coordination with other local bodies to ensure effective implementation of development programs
  5. Mobilization of resources for development activities
  6. Promotion of transparency and accountability in local governance

The creation of the DDC is seen as a significant step towards empowering local communities and promoting inclusive development in Jammu and Kashmir.
